c&c meetings
It all started when…
INTRO TO HOW I GOT TO THIS POINT…
WHAT IS C&C | Community and connection meetings
WHAT ARE C&C MEETINGS | C&C meetings are a weekly meet up for older souls to connect and begin to bridge the gap that is so prominent in remaining part of the community as they age and become less mobile.
WHO CAN ATTEND | Anyone who is feeling lonely. Who wants to be part of a community, who wants to be heard, who wants to be seen.
WHY | As the population ages, we begin to lose that connection. The kids grow up, they move away, they get their own families and their own lives. Unintentionally life happens and you go from being surrounded by your family to perhaps just your partner or perhaps you find yourself with only your own company.
It’s estimated that 10-15% of those over 65 have depression. And if you live in residential aged care the rate is higher again at around 35%. *Stats from Beyond Blue*
Those who do suffer with depression/anxiety in the 65+ age group are less likely to ask for help and actually receive the help that they need because so many think it’s just a part of getting older and that’s just what happens, but it doesn’t need to be!
At any age feeling like you’re part of something bigger is a vital part of our sense of identity and what we offer to the community. Particularly in the 65+ age group feeling as though you’ve still ‘got it’ and that you are still a valued part of society and not a burden is very important. Being seen and heard are at the core of our human nature.
C&C meetings allow a place to vent, to connect, to share, to listen, to be heard and truly seen, wIthout judgement, just as you are. To share your highs and lows and be validated for both!
At C&C meetings you will not be spoken over or spoken for, you will not be apologised for, you will not be hushed or rushed.
Bring a friend or come alone and make some new ones!
WHEN | Every Monday 11am-12pm (location TBA)
